-

“My father helped manage the beginning of my career with a management team, but I left them and managed my career on my own with my record label,” says David, “I learnt [sic] a lot through that experience, especially how to speak up and defend myself whenever I and others have a clash of opinions.”

After parting ways with his last team, Wright management, who David says are “really good people, but their goals are different than mine.” David looked around for a while and realized, “The person who understands me most is my father.”

The decision to re-hire his dad will be a controversial one because of Jeff Archuleta’s arrest for soliciting a prostitute in 2009. Also, Jeff had the reputation during Idol of being somewhat of a “stage dad.” Many were relieved when he was out of the picture.

David also talks about his future plans now that he is label-free.

On whether he would sign to a label any time soon David replied, “Why would I? The truth is, it’s hard being signed [to a record label]. As soon as I left American Idol I was signed to a record label and was rushed to record an album and it never stopped.”

“Besides, I didn’t know what I wanted to do yet at that time. Now I’m free from contracts, I’m finally able to take my time and write my own music and see what comes out of it.”

“I want to know what I sound like without people pressuring me and telling me to do this and that and saying I’ll not be successful if I don’t listen to them.”

“Instead of having people tell me ‘we need to make this sound cool’ or ‘more radio friendly’ all I want is to make a simple and good song. If it’s good, you don’t have to worry if people will like it or not. People will like it if the song is good and real.”

As far as his next album, David says “When I feel I’ve the right material, I will cut an album. But for now, I think it will be fun to release a single sometime soon for the fans who have been supportive of my career.”

“I want to do the right thing this time,” says David, “I want to take my time to really understand myself and define my own sound.”

“Instead of sounding like this or that person, I want to be able to sound like David.”
